Marsabit Water and Sewerage, in partnership with USAID’s Livestock Market System (LMS), is poised to erect an elevated steel tank, soaring 9 meters high and boasting a volume of 50 cubic meters, at the Haro Bota Earth Dam. This joint endeavor, backed by USAID funding, is anticipated to bestow the benefits of clean water and sustainable services upon roughly 400 households residing within Jirime Location and its surrounding nine villages. Among the locations set to receive water from the elevated steel tank are the Marsabit slaughterhouse, water kiosks in Chorora, Mata Arba, Jillo Scheme, and Manyatta Jillo Villages in Qilta Location, all sourced from the primary Bakuli reservoir.
On the 9th of August 2023, a collaborative effort was undertaken by Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company, Centric Africa Limited, and the Livestock Management System to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the project’s social impact. This engagement also included the solicitation of insights from community members within the project’s jurisdiction.
During this interaction, community representatives were apprised of the significance of the steel water tank and the novel digital systems that will be integrated into its construction. Overseeing the project’s execution to completion falls to Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company, Centric Africa Limited, and the Livestock Management System as the implementing entities. The project received a warm reception from community representatives, led by the Area Chief, who hailed its potential to make a meaningful difference in their lives.
“This initiative will save time for our community, particularly for women, who will now spend less time searching for this essential resource,” remarked the Area Chief, Enoch Kalo.
Questionnaires distributed among community members affirmed their ownership of the project and their appreciation for its inception, with hopes for a successful and transformative execution. “This undertaking will undoubtedly lead to advancements in household hygiene and sanitation within the community surrounding Harro Botta and the aforementioned nine villages,” emphasized Mr. Katelo Badolicha, Finance Manager at MARWASCO.
Among those present during the community engagement were Mr. Katelo Badolicha, Finance Manager at MARWASCO, Eng. Qalicha Galma, Technical Services Manager at MARWASCO, Mr. Mohammed Jaldesa and Ms. Millicent Kamau from Centric Africa Limited, and Ms. Grace Muigai, LMS Wash Officer.
