EWASO NG’IRO NORTH HANDS OVER KUBI BAGASSA BOREHOLE TO MARWASCO
Ewaso Ng’iro North Development Authority handed over Kubi Bagasa Borehole to Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company and the County Department of Water in a conspicuous ceremony spearheaded by the Saku Member of Parliament Hon. Dido Rasso.
The project stands as one of the basic concept sites established to cultivate climate change resilience and adaptability while fostering the diversification of communities’ revenue streams.
The Kubi Bagassa borehole yield 4.5 m3 per hour having dept of 450 meters equipped with 90 solar panels to pump water. The borehole serves a population of 5,000 household for domestic use with an estimated 15,000 livestock depending on the borehole.
Present during the handing over ceremony is the County Secretary Hon. Hussein Tarri, Chief Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment, climate change and Natural resources Hon. Grace Galmo, Managing Director for MARWASCO Hon. Stephen Sora Katelo and Managing Director for Ewaso Ng’iro North Development Authority (ENNDA) Eng. Ali Ibrahim.
BENEFIT OF KUBI BAGASSA BOREHOLE.
Through the project, the community has reaped numerous benefits, including:
- Improved water access: The rehabilitated borehole has significantly reduced the distance women and children in the community travel to fetch water. This substantial reduction liberates their time for engaging in other empowerment activities.
- Enhanced educational opportunities: Neighboring social amenities like Sasura Girls secondary school will be connected with a direct line to the water source.
- Agricultural Innovation: The communities are encouraged to ventured into climate smart agriculture with accessibility to water.
- Capacity Buildings of the management Committee. In a collaborative effort, the county department of water promised to conduct a comprehensive training on the delivery model.
- Women’s Leadership and Empowerment: Women in Kubi Bagassa are not only benefiting from improved water access but are also at the forefront of managing the project, thus showcasing their resilience and leadership prowess.
