As Kenya marks special gazettement of Mazingira day/ World Mental health day, an account of events was held at Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company (MARWASCO’s) office including of growing of trees.

The exercise that kicked off with collection of cabbages in collaboration with Marsabit Safi Services within Marsabit town, A Mental Health Talk by Open Minds Community Focus (OMCF) and a Walk led by Marsabit walk movement (MWM) is in line with the government initiative in hope of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 to tackle climate change crisis and deforestation amid worsening impacts such as severe drought in the County and Country at large.
The event was officiated by the office of the County Commissioner. Present during the event is our key partners REPAL, Equity Afya, Kenya Forest Service, Marsabit Walk movement, Opens mind community Focus, Marsabit Safi Service, Huduma Centre Marsabit Branch, PASIDA among many others.

According to the County Director of Environment Miss. Janet Ahatho who participated in the tree growing exercise, the county is focused and headed on right direction and is determined to reach the target 10% forest cover by 2032.
She added that the county is working with all stakeholders to secure fragile ecosystems of Marsabit Forest which is a crucial for the sustenance of life. She called on the community to conserve the forest saying that it is the only source of water for domestic use and irrigation in the area.
While promoting the tree-planting initiative, Miss Ahatho urged citizens to utilize a mobile application called ‘Jaza Miti’ to document all tree-growing activities.
She stressed the step is crucial for the County to monitor and track the progress made toward the ambitious goal of planting 15 Billion trees by 2032 as a way of mitigating the adverse effects of climate.
