The availability of clean water is essential to the growth and development of any community. In Marsabit County, Kenya, the need for a sustainable and reliable source of water has been a pressing issue for many years. However, the implementation of the Marsabit Water Supply Project is set to change this narrative.
The Marsabit Water Supply Project is a comprehensive water supply and sanitation initiative that seeks to provide sustainable water solutions to the people of Marsabit County. The project involves the construction of a raising main, which will raise Bakuli Dam, a 1,300m3/day treatment works, six kilometers of new gravity main, and three storage tanks. These infrastructure components are expected to serve up to 37,000 people in the county.
The project is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Program. The AfDB’s involvement in this project highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges such as access to clean water.
The Marsabit Water Supply Project is set to have a significant impact on the lives of the people in Marsabit County. Access to clean water will improve health outcomes, increase productivity, and stimulate economic growth. Additionally, the project’s focus on sustainability ensures that the benefits of the initiative will be enjoyed by future generations.
